Punta San Vigilio

PUNTA SAN VIGILIO

Punta San Vigilio it juts out into the lake in the verdant cypresses and olive trees and is one of the most romantic places on Lake Garda.

Punta San VigilioIt was inhabited since Roman times, and the origin of its name seems to refer to the Holy Monaco Vigil who lived here in the sec. IV lavishing to convert people to Christianity of the lake, or, according to legend, the satyr Vigilio, loving unrequited nymph Star, blinded by rage turned into the rock that emerges from the waters off the peninsula that still bears his the name.

On the tip lies the beautiful Villa Guarienti, built in the mid-500 design by Michele Sanmicheli, a famous Venetian architect.

The villa is privately owned and is surrounded by a garden of geometries and has beside the Renaissance church of San Vigilio, more ancient origins than the villa.

Along a narrow cobbled street, we find the small harbor which overlooks the Locanda San Vigilio, one of the most exclusive hotels on Lake Garda.

On the north side of the peninsula there is the Bay of the Sirens, beautiful bay framed by the green of the cypresses and olive trees with beach and with all the facilities to fully enjoy the hot summer days.

Behind this peninsula, lies the Mount Luppia famous for its prehistoric “rock carvings”: more than 3000 images cataloged representatives of men, weapons, animals, and various symbols.
